- Lead is such a common element that it is often used as a standard for
- describing lesser-known metallic elements. This can make it difficult to
- describe the metal as anything but a very soft metal that has a shiny
- blue-white appearance when it is first cut. The luster dulls after a
- while due to the formation of a thin film of protective oxidation.
- Lead is the last of the Group IVA elements on the periodic table.
